This is one of the findings of our first report, The Hate Map of Brazil.

Although defined by law, the concept of hate crime is not very well-known in Brazil. The country doesn’t have a monitoring scheme and many people don’t know crimes motivated by bias based on race, colour, religion, and origin are hate crimes.

In order to contribute to the development of more efficient strategies to challenge hate in Brazil, Words Heal the World produced this groundbreaking report. For the first time, people will have an idea of the number of crimes motivated by bias based on race, religion, sexual orientation (targeting the LGBT community), gender (targeting women), and national origin.
